Fifty years of ties.
“Daddy issue Nº.1” is my first personal project. In this work I want to combine my love for photography and editorial design. It is conceived as a series of issues in which I will be working around the figure of my father. In this first issue of the project, I have focused on the corporate side of my father. He worked for almost 50 years in the same company, and I have grown up fascinated by his suits.
I remember playing with his calculator and using his work diaries as my personal journals. It has also been an exercise in reconciliation with the fact that I chose photography as my future career. Dedicating myself to a creative profession outside the corporate world has made me afraid of disappointing my father. After a long time I have managed to take the step, and capturing my father's dedication to his work through my camera has been a way to feel at peace.
It has been a work of archeology to rescue my father's old suits and ties, his cell phones, magazines of the time ... I am a person who enjoys the design of everyday objects and I give them a lot of sentimental value. I rescue here a quote from the interview that Rosalía made to the designer Maria Grazia Chiuri: “It's so human to get attached to material things, to put love into objects”.
For this work I have been inspired by the paintings of the Italian painter Domenico Gnoli and the Jil Sander advertising campaigns of the 90s and 2000s.
Thanks so much to the Carmencita Lab team for the beautiful scans, I couldn't be happier.
